Welcome to the Native Horsemanship Youth Program Website!

We began our program as a volunteer effort in 1998, allowing children on the Port Madison Indian Reservation the chance to learn about traditional native horse training, and the chance to interact with horses on a daily basis.  This program soon became so popular that we became a tribal youth program in 1999, operating through the Suquamish Tribe.  We have serve approximately 100 children annually since 1999.

We currently work with a variety of agencies, including the Port Gamble S'klallam Tribe and Kitsap Mental Health, along with private individuals to provide access to horses and equine therapy for youth.
The mission of the NHYP is:

To provide every interested youth both on our reservation and those in the surrounding communities the opportunity to learn Native American horsemanship methods an be involved with horses regardless of their ability to pay.
